Description The GNU Image Manipulation Program, or GIMP, is a raster graphics editor used to process digital graphics and photographs. Typical uses include creating graphics and logos, resizing and cropping photos, altering colors, combining multiple images, removing unwanted image features, and converting between different image formats.[2] GIMP can also be used to create basic animated images in GIF format. It is often used as a free software replacement for Adobe Photoshop, the most widely used bitmap editor in the printing and graphics industries; however, it is not designed to be a Photoshop clone.[3] The project’s mascot is named Wilber. The project was started in 1995 by Spencer Kimball and Peter Mattis and is now maintained by a group of volunteers under the auspices of the GNU Project.[4] The latest version of GIMP, v. 2.4.5, was released on March 1, 2008. Available under the terms of the GNU General Public License, GIMP is free software.

Website Next Limit Technologies

Description RealFlow is a fluid and dynamics simulator for the 3D industry, created by Madrid-based Next Limit Technologies. Currently at version 4, the stand-alone application can be used to simulate fluids, water surfaces, fluid-solid interactions, rigid bodies, soft bodies and meshes. Victor Gonzalez, Ignacio Vargas and Angel Tena were awarded a 2007 Technical Achievement Award from The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for the creation of the RealFlow software application.[1]

The technology is unique and groundbreaking because the simulations are particle based. These particles can be influenced in a multitude of ways by point-based nodes, known as daemons, which can do anything from simulating gravity to recreating the vortex-like motion of a tornado. RealFlow can also simulate soft and rigid body collisions and interactions. In recent versions the Python scripting language has been implemented as a way to add control to most aspects of the RealFlow workflow including batch runs, events, daemons, waves and fluids. The inclusion of Python scripting means that users can program their own tools to boost RealFlow capabilities and solve specific program limitations.[

Latest Release version 3.5

Operating System Mac OS X

Website Realmac Software

Description RapidWeaver is a template-based website creation tool, from Realmac Software and is exclusive to Mac OS X.

RapidWeaver was one of the first web editors (along with Site Studio) to use user-selectable templates to define a website’s complete appearance. This enforces consistency in the website’s appearance and function, although some may see it as too constraining.

There is a thriving market for third-party templates, and technically skilled users can also create their own. There are also plugins, which add new features to the application.

RapidWeaver can generate pages of different kinds, such as styled text, weblog, contact forms, image galleries, Flash slideshows, and podcasts; it also has a built-in FTP uploader, and integration with iPhoto and .Mac.

Website Adobe Systems

Description FreeHand MX on Windows XP
is a computer application for creating two-dimensional vector graphics (use of geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and polygons to represent images, also known as geometric modeling), oriented to the professional desktop publishing market. It is available in versions for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X. FreeHand is very similar in scope, intended market, and functionality to Adobe Illustrator. It was created by Altsys and licensed to Aldus, which released versions 1 to 4. When Aldus merged with Adobe Systems, because of the overlapping of market with Illustrator, Adobe returned FreeHand to Altsys soon after the merger (after some legal wrangling, and intervention by the Federal Trade Commission). Altsys was later bought by Macromedia, which released FreeHand 5.0, 5.5 (Mac only), 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11/MX. In 2005 Adobe acquired Macromedia, thus returning the FreeHand product to Adobe. A flexible application, it is used for page layout (especially since version 4 which was based on Altsys Virtuoso for NeXTstep and had multi-page capabilities) as well as the creation and editing of vector graphic files for print and the Web. Its current version, FreeHand 11, is marketed as FreeHand MX, which shows its integration with the Macromedia MX line of products, which also includes Macromedia Flash, Macromedia Dreamweaver and Macromedia Fireworks and more.
